Standard Care Plan Epidermolysis Bullosa

Patient has defecation difficulties

Symptoms:

* (patient complains of) Hard stools

* Lower frequency of or irregular defecation

* (patient complains of) Abdominal pain and/or colics

* Pain when defecating

* Bloated belly

* Loss of appetite

* Excessive use of laxatives

Objective:

* The patient has healthy pattern of elimination

 

Causal or relating factors Actions / Interventions

 

  • insufficient use of dietary fibre

 

  • recommend eating high-fibre food
  • poor fluid intake
  • increased fluid need because of loss of fluid through wounds
  • adequate fluid intake
  • (temporary) use of fluid chart in order to assess fluid intake
  • little exercise
  • recommend more exercise
  • use of iron preparations
 
  • use of morphine preparations
 
  • pain when defecating due to blisters
  • recommend defecating as much as possible despite the pain; holding up leads to (more) hard stools which makes defecation even more painful
 
  • recommend well-balanced use of laxatives
